I knew we could

November 5, 2008

Today is a historic day.
The kind of day where you forget about boy troubles and work stresses — where you’re compelled to say, “thank god, right?” to anyone wearing an Obama ’08 button.
It’s the kind of day where state pride surfaces (that’s my New Jersey!!! 15 point margin!) and national pride returns (only in America could we come  up with that CNN hologram business…).
Today is the kind of day where you think – maybe it isn’t so impossible and hopeless and out-of-reach.  Maybe the world really is shifted by $5 and $10 donations.  Maybe you can win an election with the help of YouTube.
It’s the kind of day — maybe even the actual day — we realize that we really are the change we have been waiting for.

  1. I don’t agree with Obama either, but socialsim might be a bit harsh of a term. Obama is just one man (even if he IS the president) and I have faith in the legislative process that we won’t completely abandom capitalism.

It certainly was a historic election, in more ways than one, and it is impressive to see how many more people got involved this year than previously. Regardless of who won, it will be interesting to see what the future holds.

  2. I’m optimistic, but people were optimistic when Carter took office, and look how that turned out. He had to deal with an economic crisis, years of Republican bumbling, many of the same issues we’re dealing with today. And unfortunately, not much got done.

  3. and yet despite an american victory for tolerence and change, hatred and bigotry were victorious in california with the passing of prop 8 – what a shame, kinda makes it all bittersweet

  4. Agreed, the passing of proposition 8 in California and Act 1 in Arkansas astound me. Hopefully as our generation moves up and begins to take control of the process, we can change these laws that propagate discrimination and bigotry .
